Mark Roth

Victoria, British Columbia
Glass Blowing, Emerging

Mark Roth’s career as a glass blower came by chance, when he found himself working as a cold shop technician for Victoria’s Starfish Glassworks. Under the tutelage of his employers, he began to explore glass as an artistic medium. Mark’s work focuses on the aesthetic challenges of balancing form with colour and textures. Currently, he is experimenting with contrasting hot lush colour applications against white overlay and cold battutto (Italian for ‘small hammer marks’) techniques on basic forms. His work can be seen in galleries in Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary and Winnipeg and in a solo show at Starfish Glass from June 3 to July 3 2005.
